110th Oregon Amateur Championship Set for June 17-22 at Portland Golf Club

The 110th edition of the Oregon Amateur Championship will take place June 17-22 at Portland Golf Club.

The state’s premier amateur golf championship, the 2019 Oregon Amateur will feature 122 men and 32 women players. After 36 holes of stroke play qualifying on Monday and Tuesday, the remainder of the competition shifts to match play for the top 64 men and all women’s competitors.

Round one of match play begins Wednesday, June 19. The men’s division plays rounds two and three on Thursday, the quarterfinal and semifinal matches on Friday, and the 36-hole final match on Saturday.

Robbie Ziegler (Portland) and Ellie Slama (Salem) will defend their titles against strong men’s and women’s fields.

On the men’s side, six former Oregon Am champions bolster the 122-man field: Gay Davis (1966 & 1980), Scott Hval (1997), Cameron Martin (1992), Jack Dukeminier (2011), Blake Seabaugh (2008) join Ziegler (2018). The women’s side features a pair of previous champions, with Krissy Peterson (2016) and Slama (2018).

Several collegiate golfers from Oregon and Oregon State will test their skills this week.

Spencer Tibbits (Vancouver, Wash.) is scheduled to compete, coming off his appearance at the U.S. Open Championship at Pebble Beach. Fellow OSU Beavers Shawn Lu (Honolulu, Hawai’i), Sean Kato (Redmond, Wash.) and Alec Berrey (Corvallis, Ore.) are also slated to compete.

The Ducks will be represented by Yin Ho Ue (Hong Kong), Craig Ronne (Klamath Falls), and Tom Parker (Christchurch, New Zealand).

Notable collegiate competitors on the women’s side include Slama and Issy Taylor from OSU. Taylor, a freshman-to-be from Queensland, Australia, is coming off a 13-stroke victory in the Oregon Women’s Stroke Play Championship held June 11-12. UO’s Madi Daniel (Bakersfield, Calif.) and Nevada’s Victoria Gailey (Tigard) add to the strength of the women’s field.

The Oregon Senior Women’s Amateur Championship will also occur at Portland Golf Club, with that competition scheduled to take place June 19-22. It includes one stroke play qualifying round, followed by three rounds of match play.

Live scoring, photos and summaries will be available at OGA.org throughout the week.
