1st Look - Portland City Bob Allard Memorial

Welcome the 1st Look Series for the 2014 Portland City Bob Allard Memorial! Oregon Junior Golf’s last Major event of the season will take place on July 28th and 29th at Portland’s Rose City Golf Course. 250 juniors will participate on Monday and Tuesday, making up the largest Oregon Junior Golf Major field of the year. Ben Wanichek (Eugene, Ore.) and Hannah Swanson (Forest Grove, Ore.) placed 1st in the Boys Open and Girls Open Divisions in last year’s Portland City Bob Allard Memorial.

The Rose City Golf Club is one of Portland’s 5 city owned municipal golf courses. Construction of Rose City began in 1922 by land architect George H. Otten and opened its first 9 holes in 1923. Prior to the formal 9 holes, Rose City Raceway laid on the property grounds in Northeast Portland. In 1923, the City of Portland acquired the golf course and planned for its expansion to 18 holes. Rose City opened its full 18 holes in 1927 and became the second Municipal golf course in Portland and the state of Oregon. During the mid-1930s, green fees at Rose City totaled $.30 for 9 holes on weekdays and $.35 on weekends!

Following the completion of the 2014 Bob Allard Memorial, 8 Boys will be elected to represent Oregon Junior Golf in the 2014 Hogan Cup by way of the 2014 OJG Team Points (see current standings). The event is at Riverside Country Club on August 8th-10th and will include teams from Oregon, Washington, Nevada, California, Idaho, British Columbia and Alberta.

Tee-times for Monday begin at 7:00am  off Hole #1 and #10. Portland City starting times for 18-Holers can be found HERE and PW Divisions HERE. We look forward to seeing our Oregon Junior Golfers at Rose City on Monday and Tuesday! Play well and have fun Participants!
