1st Look Series - Centennial Junior Championship
Welcome to Oregon Junior Golf’s 1st Look Series! In this week’s edition, we are headed to the spectacular Centennial Golf Club for the Centennial Junior Championship.
The 2014 Oregon Junior Golf major season kicks off June 7-8th at the Centennial Golf Club in Medford, OR. Centennial Golf Club, located in the Rogue Valley in Southern Oregon, offers golfers a beautiful, yet challenging course that gives youth of all skill levels a wonderful opportunity to have a fun, joyous experience.
Designed by John Fought, a former Oregon Junior Golf participant, U.S. Amateur Champion (1977), and PGA Tour winner, Centennial Golf Club was created with the legendary golf architect Donald Ross in mind. Fought describes his roots with Ross saying, “The design at Centennial was inspired by the classic designs from the Golden Age of golf course architecture when such geniuses as Donald Ross, Alistair Mackenzie and AW Tillinghast were creating their master works.” With Ross’s inspiration (notable designs: Pinehurst #2, Oak Hills, Inverness Club & Oakland Hills), Fought used the natural qualities of the century old pear orchard that once stood on the course grounds and forged a royal layout. Fought has also designed multiple notable golf courses in Oregon, including The Reserve Vineyards & Golf Club, Crosswater and Langdon Farms Golf Club.
Centennial Golf Club has been recognized for its supreme golf experience, and was most recently awarded the #6 Ranking inGolfWorld’s Top 50 Best Public Courses in the U.S. in 2010. In addition, Southern Oregon Magazine’s honored the Rogue Valley gem as the Best Course to Play in 2009-2012.
