1st Look - Southern Oregon Junior & Klamath Basin Junior

Oregon Junior Golf is heading South! Our destinations are Medford and Klamath Falls specifically for the southern swing of our 2014 season. In this edition of the ‘1st Look Series’ we take a look at the upcoming Southern Oregon Junior at Rogue Valley Country Club and the Klamath Basin Junior at The Running Y Ranch and Reames G&CC. In our first trip back to Southern Oregon this summer since our 2014 Major debut at the Centennial Junior Championship, we are excited to be hosted by such amazing golf clubs in some of the most scenic area of the entire state.

The first stop of the southern swing is in Medford, OR at Rogue Valley CC for the 2014 Southern Oregon Junior. Founded in 1911, Rogue Valley CC was started by a group of businessman and orchardists in the Rogue Valley who sought to bring the first game of golf to the area. In 1923, H. Chandler Egan designed 9 Holes, which were played by the club’s 100 members. Egan (noteable designs: Waverley CC - 1912) added 9 more holes a few years later to create the “Original 18”. Today, Rogue Valley CC has 27 holes, which all will be used during next week’s tournament as the PeeWee Divisions will play the 9-Hole “Oaks Course”. Competition begins Monday, July 14th at 7:00am.

Following the Southern Oregon Junior, we head east to Klamath Falls and the 2014 Klamath Basin Junior. Hosted at two courses, The Running Y Ranch and Reames G&CC, the Klamath Basin Junior is on Wednesday and Thursday, July 16th and 17th. The first round is hosted by The Running Y Ranch Resort on the only Arnold Palmer designed golf course in Oregon. It has received Golf Week’s “TOP 10 in Oregon” award, and was on Golf.com’s “King’s TOP 10 Worldwide” list. The final round of completion will occur at Reames Golf and Country Club. Oregon Junior Golfers became very familiar with Reames when it graciously hosted the 81st Bob Norquist Oregon Junior Amateur Championship a few years ago. Reames G&CC has kindly offered players the opportunity to practice and enjoy their swimming pool at no charge on Wednesday, July 16th, following the playing of the first round at The Running Y Ranch.

It’s going to be a hot week in Southern Oregon so make sure to pack accordingly and drink lots of water. We look forward to seeing all juniors and supporters in Medford and Klamath Falls next week! Our next edition of the ‘1st Look Series’ takes us to Meadow Lakes GC and Juniper GC for the Central Oregon Junior! Travel safe and play well participants!
