2018 Oregon Women's Stroke Play, Super Senior Begins Tuesday

BEND, Ore. – The 28th Oregon Women’s Stroke Play and 13th Oregon Super Senior Championships will take place concurrently this week, August 14-15, 2018 at Broken Top Club in Bend, Ore.

The Women’s Stroke Play features two divisions – Open and Senior Women’s. The Super Senior features two divisions, Men and Women, which include three flights for men and two for women. Flights are determined by age, and overall champions are based on the lowest total score in each division.

The Women’s Stroke Play will have a new champion this year, as reigning winner Haleigh Krause is not in the field.

Highlighting the impressive field is Ellie Slama (Salem, Ore.), 2018 Oregon Women’s Amateur champion. Coming off a historic freshman season at Oregon State, Slama recently competed in the U.S. Women’s Amateur, tying for the final match play position but falling in a nine-person playoff.

Also competing is 2016 champion Hannah Swanson (Forest Grove, Ore.) and 2017 and 2018 OGA Tournament of Champions winner Gretchen Johnson (Portland, Ore.). They’ll play with Slama in the first group on Tuesday.

Former Oregon Women’s Amateur champion Krissy Peterson (Canby, Ore.) is looking for her first OGA win since her Women’s Amateur victory in 2016. Also in the field is Amanda Jacobs (Portland, Ore.), 2018 Pacific Northwest Women’s Amateur champion and back-to-back quarterfinalist at the U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur, and Jenny Krause (Eugene, Ore.), two-time OGA Championship winner.

An abundance of colleges will be represented this week. Along with Slama, fellow Beaver golfers Susie Cavanagh (Corvallis, Ore.) and Mari Nishiura (Corvallis, Ore.) are playing. Washington State’s Madison Odiorne (Bend, Ore.) will be competing, as well as Eastern Washington’s Madalyn Ardueser (Eugene, Ore.).

The Senior Women’s division includes Anita Wicks (Roseburg, Ore.), four-time champion including last year. Leilani Norman (Eugene, Ore.) winner of this event in 2016, is also competing, along with Marcia Fisher (Molalla, Ore.), seven-time Oregon Women’s Amateur champion and 2004 Oregon Senior Women’s Amateur winner.

The Super Senior field is impressive in its own right, starting with defending champion Sam Spicher (Beaverton, Ore.). Two-time Oregon Amateur champion Gay Davis (Portland, Ore.) will also be competing, winning the state’s pinnacle event in 1966 and 1980.

Former Oregon Senior Amateur winner Denny Taylor (Gladstone, Ore.) will be searching for his first Super Senior title. Stein Swenson (Bend, Ore.) and Carey Watson (Bend, Ore.), winners of the 2016 Oregon Senior Four-Ball Championship, are also competing in their hometown.

The women’s field features Nettie Morrison (Bend, Ore.), winner of this event the last two years and four-time overall winner. Former winners Cindy Anderson (Eugene, Ore.) and Rusty Beckel (Oak Grove, Ore.) will also be looking to add to their trophy case this week.
