34th Oregon Senior Women's Amateur Begins Thursday at The Oregon Golf Club
WEST LINN, ORE. – The 34th Oregon Senior Women’s Amateur Championship will begin on Thursday, June 22 and run through Sunday, June 25 at The Oregon Golf Club in West Linn, Ore.
The Championship will run concurrently with the 108th Oregon Amateur Championship, which is currently underway at The Oregon Golf Club.
Thursday will feature 18-holes of stroke play qualifying. Friday will include first-round matches, and quarterfinal and semifinal matches will commence on Saturday. The 18-hole final will take place Sunday, June 25.
This year’s field features five past champions: Anita Wicks (Roseburg, Ore. – 2016), Leilani Norman (Eugene, Ore. – 2013, 2015), Loree McKay (Portland, Ore. – 2007, 2011, 2014), Debbie Friede (Washougal, Wash. – 2012), and Marcia Fisher (Molalla, Ore. – 2004).
Last year’s winner, Wicks, will attempt to become the first back-to-back winner of the event since Joan Edwards-Powell won two-consecutive titles in 2008 and 2009. Wicks won three-straight Oregon Senior Women’s Stroke Play titles from 2013-15. Norman won last year’s Oregon Senior Women’s Stroke Play at Gearhart Golf Links, ending Wicks’ run of three-straight wins.
This week’s incredibly strong field also includes Fisher, who along with her one Oregon Senior Amateur title, has won an astonishing seven Oregon Women’s Amateur Championships. Charisse Spada (Portland, Ore.) is a former Oregon Women’s Amateur champion as well, winning in 1982 and 1999. Lara Tennant (Portland, Ore.) recently finished fifth at this year’s OGA Tournament of Champions, and is playing in her first Oregon Senior Women’s Amateur.
