45th Junior America's Cup Heads to The Home Course in Washington

DuPont, Wash. – The 45th Annual Junior America’s Cup, hosted by the Washington Junior Golf Association, will take place at The Home Course from July 25-27, 2017.

Similar to a collegiate event, the Junior America’s Cup features 18 teams of four boys representing their state, province or country. The competition will be held over 54-holes with each team counting its best three scores each round. The low scoring team after 54-holes will be crowned 2017 champions and presented the champions gold medals.

The low individual in the field through 54-holes will also be honored with the gold Sally Pini Memorial Medal.

Opened in 2007, The Home Course in DuPont, Wash. was immediately recognized by Golfweek magazine as the No. 2-ranked “Best Public Course in Washington.” The course features panoramic views of Puget Sound, the Olympic Mountains, and Mount Rainier throughout the golf course. The course is cooperatively owned and operated by the Pacific Northwest Golf Association and the Washington State Golf Association. The Home Course has played host to a number of high profile events, including serving as the assisting course for the 2010 U.S. Amateur Championship, and the host course for the 2014 US Women’s Amateur Public Links.

Leading the charge of top-ranked world junior golfers is William Mouw of Chino, Calif. Mouw is coming into the Junior America’s Cup a month after winning the prestigious Western Junior Championship, and an impressive 5th place finish at the IMG Academy Junior World Championship at Torrey Pines in San Diego, Calif. Mouw will be representing Southern California and is currently the #4 ranked junior golfer in the AJGA Polo junior golf rankings.

Also representing Southern California will be the AJGA Polo rankings #50 ranked junior golfer Alexander Yang of Carlsbad, Calif.

Locally, representing team Washington, Alvin Kwak of Mukilteo, Sean Kato of Redmond, Gunnar Knutson of Spokane and Collin Bordeaux of University Place will look to defend Washington’s title at last year’s Junior America’s Cup held in Guadalajara, Mexico. Kwak recently advanced to the Round of 32 at the US Junior Amateur, and Kato is the lone returning member from last year’s victorious team.

Play for the 54-hole stroke play championship will begin Tuesday at 7:00 a.m. with practice rounds and a players' banquet being held today. Play will conclude with the team and individual champions being crowned on Thursday, July 27.

Past Junior America’s Cup participants who have gone on to successful professional careers include Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Fred Couples, Corey Pavin, Rickie Fowler and local PGA Tour members Ryan Moore, Kyle Stanley, Alex Prugh, Joel Dahmen and Michael & Andrew Putnam.
