87th OGA Men’s Team Championship Commences This Weekend at Centennial Golf Club
Medford, Ore. – Twenty-four teams of four players each from clubs around Oregon and Southwest Washington will begin play tomorrow at the 87th OGA Men’s Team Championship, held at Centennial Golf Club in Medford, Ore. from October 4-5.
The Championship format is a 36-hole team competition where three of the best four individual scores from each team will be taken to form the team total each day. Last year, the team from Bandon Dunes Golf Club (Adam Araneo, Kyle Crawford, Kevin Rei, Brad Belletti) took home its first title, dominating the field and winning by nine strokes over the squad from Columbia Edgewater Country Club.
An Individual Champion will also be crowned this weekend. John Wise (Columbia Edgewater CC) won last year’s title, while Kasey Young (Royal Oaks CC) earned medalist honors in 2012.
This year’s field includes a strong team from Columbia Edgewater. Its four-man team includes the 2014 OGA Tournament of Champions winner Scott Hval, who also finished runner-up in last month’s 31st Oregon Senior Amateur Championship, as well as Randy Mahar, winner of the 2014 Oregon Senior Stroke Play Championship.
Arrowhead Golf Club also fields a strong team this year, including Austin Landis, the runner-up from the 105th Oregon Amateur Championship held in June, and Pat O’Donnell, who won the 31st Oregon Senior Amateur Championship just a few weeks ago.
Royal Oaks Country Club returns two of its four players from last year’s squad that finished third behind Bandon Dunes and Columbia Edgewater. Riverside Golf and Country Club and Portland Golf Club, who tied for fourth in last year’s competition, also return strong teams for this weekend’s Championship.
