BAKKE AND CHRISMAN QUALIFY FOR 2014 U.S. MID-AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP

Luke Bakke (Seattle, Wash.) and James Chrisman (Bend, Ore.) qualified for the 2014 U.S. Mid-Amateur Championship after qualifying at the sectional qualifier at Aspen Lakes Golf Club in Sisters, Ore. on Monday.

Bakke, Chrisman and Joel Johnson (Portland, Ore.) all shot 2-under par 70, putting them in a playoff on the 7,084 yard par-72 Aspen Lakes Golf Club. Bakke, who was in the first group and Chrisman, who was in the second group, had to wait until the last group to find out if they were in a playoff or not. Johnson, who was 4-under par through 13 holes, gave shots back on holes sixteen and seventeen to join the playoff.

During the playoff, Johnson’s tee shot left him in a tough spot, and he ended up making a triple bogey. Bakke and Chrisman both make pars to qualify. Johnson will be the first alternate and Jason Wood (Portland, Ore.), who fired a 1-under par 71, is the second alternate.

The U.S. Mid-Amateur Championship will be held September 6-11, 2014 at Saucon Valley Country Club in Bethlehem, Penn.
