Bob Harrington and Denny Taylor Qualify for 2016 U.S. Senior Amateur Championship
WOODBURN, ORE. – Bob Harrington (Portland, Ore.) and Denny Taylor (Gladstone, Ore.) both earned a spot in the 2016 U.S. Senior Amateur Championship through qualifying held Monday at the OGA Golf Course in Woodburn, Ore.
Harrington claimed medalist honors after shooting a 3-under par 69. His round was highlighted by a 3-under par 33 on the front side, which featured an eagle on the par-5 fifth hole. Taylor finished one shot back of Harrington at -2 (70) in Monday’s qualifier, birdieing two of the final three holes to finish his round on a high note.
Randy Mahar (Portland, Ore.) defeated Mike Kloenne (West Linn, Ore.) in a playoff to become the first alternate, while Kloenne is the second alternate. Mahar won the playoff on the second hole. Both players shot even par (72) during Monday’s qualifier.
The 2016 U.S. Senior Amateur Championship will be held September 17-22 at Old Warson Country Club in St. Louis, Mo.
