Centennial Junior Championship Day 1 Recap

Medford, OR - The 2014 Oregon Junior Golf season got underway today at Centennial Golf Club for the Centennial Junior Championship. In the year’s first Major tournament, 135 players enjoyed a beautiful day and a favorable scoring course.

In the Boys Open Division, playing Par-72 and 6703-yards, 7 individuals broke par. Of the 7, Cole Madey of West Linn, OR, led the field posting an impressive score of  67, -5. Ben Quast, Spencer Tibbits, Bryce Wortman, Alex Wrenn, Riley Elmes and Michiel Eyre also bested Par. In the Boys Division, Cole Chrisman and Zack Caples shot -2 and -1 respectively, putting them at the top of their Division. Ellen Secor leads the Girls Open Division after shooting 71, -1. The Intermediate Boys Divisionis led by Isaac Buerger and Samuel Pyon who carded 71 and 70. A total of 12 Oregon Junior Golfers shot under-par, a new overall record! The field of 132 totaled an amazing 192 total birdies in the first day of play.

The Centennial Junior Championship concludes tomorrow, Sunday, June 8th, with tee times beginning at 7:30am. The next Oregon Junior Golf Major is June 18-19 at the Peter Jacobsen Challenge!
