Columbia Edgewater CC Plays Host to 111th Oregon Amateur Championship

The Oregon Golf Association will administer the 111th playing of the Oregon Amateur Championship June 22-27 at Columbia Edgewater Country Club in Portland.

This year marks the seventh time that Columbia Edgewater will host an Oregon Amateur Championship, which ranks behind Waverley Country Club (24) and Portland Golf Club (12) for most times as host of the state’s premier amateur golf championship.

The 2020 men’s field features 108 players, including three former Oregon Amateur champions. The women’s field includes 48 players, a talented group led by two-time defending champion Ellie Slama.

Both the men and women will be completing a 36-hole qualifying on Monday and Tuesday to determine the low 64 qualifiers for the men and the low 32 qualifiers for the women. If necessary, a playoff will be held for the last spot into match play or medalist.

Round one of match play begins Wednesday, June 24. The men’s division plays rounds two and three on Thursday, the quarterfinal and semifinal matches on Friday, and the 36-hole final match on Saturday.

Slama, from Salem, claimed the 2018 crown at Bend Golf Club, and followed that up with a win last year at Portland Golf Club.

Robbie Ziegler (2018 – Bend GC), Jack Dukeminier (2011 – Waverley CC) and Scott Hval (1997 – Columbia Edgewater CC) are a trio of former champions in a competitive group on the men’s side.

Additionally, the Oregon Senior Women’s Amateur Championship will be played this week at Columbia Edgewater CC, with that competition scheduled to take place June 24-27. It includes one stroke play qualifying round, followed by three rounds of match play.

Leading that field is three-time defending champion, Lara Tennant, who is looking to add a fourth title in as many years. Loree McKay, a three-time winner of the event, returns to seek her first title since 2014. Leilani Norman, who won this event 2013 and 2015, adds to an exceptional 24-player senior women’s field.

Live scoring, photos and summaries will be available at OGA.org throughout the week.
