Conner Kumpula, Dylan Wu Qualify for 2015 U.S. Amateur Championship
EAGLE POINT, ORE. - After withdraws and a disqualification, just 39 golfers competed at Eagle Point Golf Course for two spots in the 2015 U.S. Amateur Championship. The course stretched to nearly 7,100 yards and a challenging layout allowed only two golfers to finish under par for the 36-hole qualifier.
Oregon State golfer Connor Kumpula (Albany, Ore.) earned a spot in the U.S. Amateur and took medalist honors after firing a 5-under par 139 (67-72). Northwestern University player Dylan Wu (Medford, Ore.) earned the second qualifying spot after posting a 1-under par 143 (70-73).
Five players were tied at 1-over par 145 after 36-holes, and a playoff ensued for the final two alternate spots. In the end, Joshua Gleige (Eagle, Idaho) earned the first alternate spot on the first playoff hole with a birdie. University of Oregon golfer Nigel Lett (Beaverton, Ore.) took the second alternate spot with a birdie on the second playoff hole.
The 2015 U.S. Amateur Championship will be held at Olympia Fields Golf Club in Olympia Fields, Illinois from August 17-23.
