Cut Made as Half the Field Advances to Final Day of Oregon Junior Stroke Play Championship

WOODBURN, ORE. – The second day of the 19th Oregon Junior Stroke Play Championship came to a close Wednesday night, as half the field advanced to play a final day on Thursday. The championship is being held July 5-7 at the OGA Golf Course in Woodburn, Ore.

At the end of the day, 36 boys and 15 girls advanced to play Thursday. The top half of each division, including ties, advanced.

In the Boys Division, yesterday’s leader Spencer Tibbits (Vancouver, Wash.) continues to lead the field, following his first-round 69 with a solid 1-under par 71. He sits at 4-under par for the event, one shot ahead of Craig Ronne (Klamath Falls, Ore.), who has shot rounds of 70 and 71 and sits at 3-under par after two days. Ronne has played the first two holes 3-over par in the championship, and the rest of the course at 6-under par.

Mateo Fuenmayor (Beaverton, Ore.) stayed steady on Wednesday, shooting another 71 (-1) to go with yesterday’s 71. Tied for fourth place is Avery Keating (Lake Oswego, Ore.), who fired a blistering 69 (-3) on Wednesday, and Cameron Nicklos (Lake Oswego, Ore.). Both players are at even par.

In the Girls Division, defending champion and first-round leader Ellie Slama (Salem, Ore.) continues to lead, shooting an even-par 72 to go with yesterday’s 70. She currently sits at 2-under par and is one shot ahead of Victoria Gailey (Tigard, Ore.), who shot the low round of the tournament so far for the division on Wednesday after firing a 3-under par 69. She stands at 1-under par for the event after shooting 74 (+2) on Tuesday. After starting her first round 6-over after seven holes, Gailey has gone 7-under in her last 29 holes.

In third place is Madalyn Ardueser (Eugene, Ore.), who has shot rounds of 74-75 and is at +5. Ashley Zhu (Salem, Ore.) is in fourth, currently at 10-over par after rounds of 75 and 79, and in fifth is Tya Seth (West Linn, Ore.) after she followed up a first-round 82 with a 75 on Wednesday. She’s currently at 13-over par.
