Day 1 - Central Willamette Junior Championship

The first day of competition in the 2014 Central Willamette Junior finished up on Monday evening at Willamette Valley Country Club in Canby, Ore.

In the Boys Open Division, Trenton Warner (Portland, Ore.) and Trent Standard (Vancouver, Wash.) share the first round lead after the pair each shot an even-par round of 72. Warner birdied three of the final five holes to finish at even par, while Standard used eight pars and a bogey on his second nine after firing a 1-under par 35 on the front nine.

Three players are one stroke back and tied for second after Monday: Ben Stickney (Portland, Ore.), Brock Anderson (Lake Oswego, Ore.) and Bryce Wortman (Klamath Falls, Ore.). Riley Elmes (Lake Oswego, Ore.), who’s won the Oregon Junior Amateur and Oregon Junior Stroke Play Championships the past two weeks, sits two strokes back after shooting a 2-over par 74. Alex Wrenn (Lake Oswego, Ore.), last week’s Oregon Junior Stroke Play runner-up, is tied with Elmes at 2-over par.

In the Girls Open Division, Ellie Slama (Salem, Ore.) continues her strong season’s play leading the division with a 3-over par 75 by three strokes over Ellen Secor (Portland, Ore.) and Madalyn Ardueser (Eugene, Ore.)

In the Junior Division, Soren Carr (West Linn, Ore.) leads by three strokes over Danny Long (Eugene, Ore.)

In the Boys Division, Jon Holzgang (Tigard, Ore.) holds a narrow lead at 3-over par 75 with the field piled up behind him. Dylan Adams (Eugene, Ore) sits one back and Matthew Tennant sits two back.

In the Girls Division, Janelle Decker (Tualatin, Ore.) leads with a first-round 84, followed closely by Donnie Thomason (Grants Pass, Ore.) just one stroke back along with Sara Stember (Portland, Ore.) four back at 88.

In the Intermediate Boys Division, Samuel Pyon (Happy Valley, Ore.) holds the first-round lead after firing an even-par 72. Pyon’s round included four birdies and four bogeys. Jonathan Lu (Portland, Ore.) sits 6 strokes off the pace at 6-over par 78.

In the Intermediate Girls Division, Summer Marshal (West Linn, Ore.) sits atop the leaderboard after a first round 82.

In the 8-9 year old Pee Wee Boys Division, Carson Maurer holds the lead after a first-round 47, while Mateo Fuenmayor (Beaverton, Ore.) leads the 10-11 year olds after a 1-over par 37.

In the 8-9 year old Pee Wee Girls Division, Zoe Newell (West Linn, Ore.) holds the top spot with a 16-over par 52, while Baylee Hammericksen (Medford, Ore.) leads the 10-11 year olds with a first-round 44.

Second round play in the 2014 Central Willamette Junior will begin Tuesday morning at Arrowhead Golf Course in Molalla, Ore.
