Day 2 - 2014 Central Willamette Junior Championship
Riley Elmes (Lake Oswego, Ore.) won his third consecutive Oregon Junior Golf event, while Ellie Slama (Salem, Ore.) earned the title in the Girls Open Division in the 2014 Central Willamette Junior Championship, which finished up on Tuesday at Arrowhead Golf Club in Molalla, Ore. Monday’s first round was held at Willamette Valley Country Club in Canby, Ore.
Elmes’ victory follows his wins in the past two Oregon Junior Golf majors. Two weeks ago at Waverley Country Club in Portland, Elmes cruised to a win in the Oregon Junior Amateur Championship. Last week, in the Oregon Junior Stroke Play Championship at the OGA Golf Course in Woodburn, Elmes finished at 14-under par over three days of competition to win the event by three strokes.
On Monday at Willamette Valley, Elmes finished with just two birdies, along with four bogies, to finish at 2-over par (74). He came back on Tuesday with five birdies and one bogey, shooting a 4-under par round of 67 and combining for a two-day total of 141 (-2). Reese Fisher (Medford, Ore.) finished in second place for the tournament, firing a 1-under par 70 on Tuesday to finish the event at 2-over par (75-70 – 145). Jake Quast (Ashland, Ore.) and Brock Anderson (Lake Oswego, Ore.) tied for third, shooting 146 (+3) for the two days.
In the Girls Open Division, Slama won wire-to-wire after leading Monday following her round of 75 (+3). On Tuesday, Slama used a 2-under par 34 on the back nine to finish at even-par 71 for the day, and finish at 146 (+3) for the tournament. Ellen Secor (Portland, Ore.) shot the low score of the tournament for the Girls Open Division on Tuesday, firing a 1-under par 70 at Arrowhead. She finished in second place and at 149 (+6) for the tournament. Madalyn Ardueser (Eugene, Ore.) shot 79 (+7) on Monday and 78 (+7) on Tuesday to finish at 157 (+14) and in third place.
Soren Carr (West Linn, Ore.) won the Juniors Division with scores of 81-75, for a total of 156 (+13). In the Boys Division, Matthew Tennant (Portland, Ore.) won on the first playoff hole to finish first, with a two-day total of 152 (77-75, +9). Joseph Brundan (Eugene, Ore.) earned second place, shooting a second-day 74 (+3) and also finishing at 152 for the tournament.
For the Girls Division title, Janelle Decker (Tualatin, Ore.) won with scores of 84-80, finishing at 164 (+22) for the tournament. Sara Stember (Portland, Ore.) earned second place with a two-day total of 175 (88-87).
Samuel Pyon (Happy Valley, Ore.) ran away with the Intermediate Boys title, following up his even-par round of 72 on Monday with a 2-over par round of 73 on Tuesday, finishing at 145 (+2) for the two days. Jonathan Lu (Portland, Ore.) finished in second place with a total of 153 (78-75). In the Intermediate Girls Division, Heejung Kang (Portland, Ore.) won on the first playoff hole against Staesha Flock (Eagle Point, Ore.) to win the title. Kang fired scores of 88-81 for a total of 169, while Flock posted rounds of 87-82.
With scores of 37 (+1) and 34 (E), Mateo Fuenmayor (Beaverton, Ore.) earned the title in the Pee Wee Boys 10-11 Division, totaling 71 (+1) for the tournament. Brandon Eyre (Salem, Ore.) finished in second place with scores of 38 (+2) and 38 (+4), 76 (+6) for the event. Simon Grey (Lake Oswego, Ore.) won the Pee Wee Boys 8-9 Division by one stroke, finishing with a two-day total of 90 (49-41). Baylee Hammericksen (Medford, Ore.) won the Pee Wee Girls 10-11 Division with scores of 44 (+8) and 42 (+8), totaling 86 for the two days, while Jade Gruher (Camas, Wash.) won the Pee Wee Girls 8-9 Division with a two-day total of 106 (55-51).
