Defending Champion Tennant Back in Final Match at 2019 U.S. Senior Women's Amateur
Lara Tennant will defend her U.S. Senior Women’s Amateur crown in the final match on Thursday after defeating Patricia Ehrhart (Honolulu, Hawai’i) 4&2 in Wednesday’s semifinal round played at Cedar Rapids Country Club in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Tennant, from Portland, will face Sue Wooster (Australia) in a rematch of last year's match play final, which Tennant won 3&2. Wooster defeated Caryn Wilson (Rancho Mirage, Calif.) 1 up in the other semifinal.
In Wednesday’s semifinal against Ehrhart, Tennant jumped out to a 2 up advantage following birdies on holes No. 2 and 3. Another birdie at hole No. 8 provided a 3 up advantage, which she held until wrapping up the match on the 16th hole with another birdie.
Tennant earned the No. 5 seed in the match play portion of the competition after shooting 4-over par in stroke play. Thus far she has registered wins over Susan West (1 up), Maggie Leef (3&2), Pamela Kuong (4&3) and Lynn Cowan (5&4) before Wednesday afternoon’s semifinal victory over Ehrhart.
Thursday’s final match is set for 6:30am (PT).
