Thursday marked the finish of Oregon Junior Golf’s southern Oregon swing, with the completion of the two-day Klamath Basin Junior, held at The Running Y Ranch and at Reames Golf and Country Club on Wednesday, July 16th and Thursday, July 17th.

Conditions were perfect for two days of great golf in Klamath Falls. The temperature was not as warm as earlier in the week, with highs in the high 80’s and early 90’s including a slight breeze.

Riley Elmes (Lake Oswego, Ore.) won the fourth consecutive Oregon Junior Golf event he has participated in, defeating Craig Ronne (Klamath Falls, Ore.) in a playoff for the Boys Open Division title. Elmes finished with scores of 73-68 – 141 (-3), while Ronne shot 69-72 – 141. Elmes has previously won the 84th Oregon Junior Amateur Championship, 2014 Oregon Junior Stroke Play Championship and 2014 Central Willamette Junior Championship. In the Girls Open Division, Ellis Slama (Salem, Ore.) won her second consecutive junior event, finishing with scores of 72-75 – 147 (+3). Slama won the Southern Oregon Junior Championship earlier this week.

Brandon Chun (Medford, Ore.) won the Juniors Division title with scores of 81-81 – 162. Mindy Eason (Springfield, Ore.) earned first place in the Girls Division, while Joseph Brundan (Eugene, Ore.) won the Boys Division title with scores of 75-74 – 149.

Jackson Kennon (Bandon, Ore.) defeated Nate Stember (Portland, Ore.) in a playoff for the Intermediate Boys Division title. Kennon shot scores of 77-72 – 149, while Stember fired rounds of 73-76 – 149. Victoria Gailey (Tigard, Ore.) won first place in the Intermediate Girls Division, breaking a three-person tie for first place after the first day. Gailey shot scores of 82-77 – 159.

Brandon Eyre (Salem, Ore.) won his first Oregon Junior Golf tournament of the year, defeating Scotty Kennon (Bandon, Ore.) in a playoff on the first hole for the Pee Wee Boys 10-11 title. Eyre finished with scores of 33-41 – 74, and Kennon shot 36-38 – 74. Elliot Lee (Tillamook, Ore.) won first place in the Pee Wee Boys 8-9 Division. Baylee Hammericksen (Medford, Ore.) won the Pee Wee Girls 10-11 Division title with scores of 38-45 – 83, while Zoe Newell (West Linn, Ore.) earned first place in the Pee Wee Girls 8-9 Division.
