Elmes, Blauer Tied for Lead; Stoll Holds Sizable Margin After Day One at 71st OGA Tournament of Champions

Aurora, Ore. – The memo before the 71st Tournament of Champions: bring your raingear, bring your umbrellas.  However, against all odds, no GorTex was needed as the sun shone through on a first round in which six players posted rounds under par at the challenging par-71 Langdon Farms Golf Club.

In the Men’s Open Division, 17-year-old Riley Elmes, who won the 2014 Oregon Junior Amateur Championship, shares the lead at 2-under par with Nate Blauer, a club champion from Rock Creek Country Club.  Arthur Kim of Tigard, Ore., Jeff Gustafson of Vancouver, Wash. and Jeff Glodt of Salem, OR, sit one shot back at 1-under par.

In the Women’s Open Division, 18-year-old Gigi Stoll, 2014 Oregon Women’s Amateur Champion, is in a good position to defend her 2014 Tournament of Champions title after shooting a 3-under par 68 today.  Aram Choi, the 2014 OGA Women’s Stroke Play Champion, is 6-shots behind after shooting a 3-over par 74 and Brie Stone, a 4-time Oregon Women’s Mid-Amateur Champion, is in third-place after posting a 4-over par 75.

Play continues tomorrow, April 26, at 7:00am with the final group teeing off at 12:50pm.  The award ceremony is scheduled for 5:30pm on the Langdon Farms patio, weather permitting.
