Elmes, Odiorne Lead After Day Two of Oregon Junior Stroke Play; Cuts Made for Final Round

Riley Elmes (Lake Oswego, Ore.) and Madison Odiorne (Bend, Ore.) lead after the second day of the Oregon Junior Stroke Play Championship, held at the OGA Golf Course in Woodburn, Ore.

Following Wednesday’s results, the field was cut in half for both the Boys and Girls divisions, including ties. The top 41 boys made it to Thursday’s final round, with the cut at 156 (+12). Sixteen girls advanced to the tournament’s final day, as the cut was set to 163 (+19).

Temperatures on Wednesday were significantly cooler than on Tuesday, and low scores followed. Seven players are under-par for the tournament, and with one more round to play, the competition should come down to the wire.

“We saw some excellent scores today,” said Robyn Lorain, Director of Oregon Junior Golf. “With so many participants playing well, it should make for an exciting and thrilling last day.”

Elmes, last week’s Oregon Junior Amateur champion, followed a first-round 67 (-5) with a 4-under par round of 68 on Wednesday, shooting a two-day total of 135 (67-68) and sitting at 9-under par for the tournament. In second place is Alex Wrenn (Lake Oswego, Ore.), who shot the low round of the tournament so far on Wednesday, firing a 7-under par 65 and combining for a two-day total of 137 (72-65). Yesterday’s leader, Brian Humphreys (Washougal, Wash.) shot an even-par round of 72 and is in third place going into tomorrow (66-72), totaling 138 over his first two rounds.

In the Girls division, Odiorne shot a 1-under par round of 71 on Wednesday and is even-par after two days (73-71). Odiorne’s two-day total of 144 is two shots ahead of both Ellie Slama (Salem, Ore.) (77-69) and Kaitlin Collom (Klamath Falls, Ore.) (73-73), who are at 146. Slama’s second day total of 69 (-3) is the low score of the tournament so far in the Girls division. Sophia Schiavone (Gresham, Ore.), who led after Tuesday’s round, is at 147 (72-75) and three strokes back of Odiorne.

Thursday’s final round will be held at the OGA Golf Course in Woodburn.
