Field Narrowed to Semifinals, Finals at 2nd Oregon Amateur Four-Ball
BLACK BUTTE RANCH, ORE. - We’re down to the wire at the 2nd Oregon Amateur Four-Ball Championship at Black Butte Ranch.
After a grueling day of competition in hot, humid heat and smoky skies, the semifinals of the Open Division and the finals of the Women’s and Senior Men’s Divisions are set for Tuesday at Big Meadow Golf Course.
In one Open Division semifinal, defending champions Brent McKee and Trevor Harding (Portland, Ore.) will face off against the side of Jason Wood and Travis Paul (Portland, Ore.). In a rematch of last year’s final, McKee and Harding advanced to the semifinals by defeating Jim Dunlap and Jay Poletiek (Tigard/Portland, Ore.) in 20 holes in the quarterfinals. Wood and Paul haven’t won by a deficit less than 3&2 so far in the event.
The other semifinal will pit Chace Daskalos and Andrew Raab (Albany, Ore.) against the local side of Ryan DeCastilhos and Clare Langford (Bend, Ore.). Daskalos and Raab are current players out of Saint Martin’s University in Lacey, Wash.
The Women’s final match features two sides playing solid golf at the moment. Medalists Kailin Downs and Amy Anderson (Oregon City/Bend, Ore.) will play defending champions Amanda Jacobs and Gretchen Johnson (Portland, Ore.). Downs and Anderson won the 17th hole in their semifinal match against Debbie Friede and Katy Wright (Washougal/Camas, Wash.) to win, 1-up, while Jacobs and Johnson birdied the 18th hole to solidify a 2-up win against Leilani Norman and Ginny Burkey (Eugene, Ore.).
Only one side has clinched its spot in the Senior Men’s finals for Tuesday. Byron Patton and Jack Schneider (Tigard/Oregon City, Ore.) defeated Vernon Pelman and Duane Bray 3&2 in the semifinals. The other semifinal match, Scott Hval and Randy Mahar (Portland, Ore.) against Tom Prevost and Ron Hop (McMinnville/Dayton, Ore.), ended all-square after 18 holes but was postponed due to darkness. The two sides will resume their semifinal match before tomorrow’s Senior Men’s final match.
