Final Oregon Amateur Qualifier Complete; Field Set for 2016 Championship Proper
OREGON CITY, ORE. - Landon Joy (Vancouver, Wash.) medaled and a total of 26 players advanced to this year's Oregon Amateur Championship after the final Oregon Amateur qualifier was held at Stone Creek Golf Club in Oregon City, Ore. on Tuesday, June 7th.
Joy fired a 3-under par 69 to lead the field on Tuesday. He birdied four straight holes (2-5) near the beginning of his round and was 5-under par through eight holes, although four bogies put him back to 1-under par going into the par-5 18th hole. Joy eagled the 18th to secure his position atop the leaderboard.
Max Murai (Beaverton, Ore.), Marcus Potter (Tualatin, Ore.) and Noah Yano (Happy Valley, Ore.) all tied for second after shooting 70 (-2). Jon Gaffney (Milwaukie, Ore.) earned a fifth place finish after shooting an even-par round of 72.
Stone Creek played difficult on Tuesday, with 79 the cut line, sending the final 26 players to Oregon's flagship amateur golf championship.
With all qualifiers complete, the Oregon Amateur Championship field is now complete. The Championship proper will be held June 20-25 at Black Butte Ranch - Glaze Meadow in Black Butte Ranch, Ore.
