Five OGA Competitors Headline 2018 U.S. Senior Amateur at Eugene Country Club
EUGENE, Ore. – Five OGA competitors will compete in the upcoming 2018 U.S. Senior Amateur Championship, held August 25-30 at Eugene Country Club in Eugene, Ore.

The championship will mark the fifth USGA event that Eugene CC has hosted – the course had previously been the host course for the 1964 U.S. Junior Amateur, 1993 U.S. Mid-Amateur, 2002 U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur and 2008 U.S. Women’s Amateur.
All five OGA members that are competing this week qualified in July at the sectional qualifier held at Eugene CC. Leading the pack is Pat O’Donnell (Happy Valley, Ore.), runner-up at the 2013 U.S. Senior Amateur. O’Donnell has had a legendary golf career, winning five Oregon Senior Amateur titles and nine Oregon Senior Men’s Stroke Play events, including this year’s Senior Stroke Play Championship.
Scott Hval (Portland, Ore.) is another accomplished player competing this year. The former Oregon Amateur champion is a three-time Oregon Senior Amateur winner, victorious three-straight years from 2012-2014. Bradley Karns (Vancouver, Wash.) is playing in his second-consecutive U.S. Senior Amateur. Larry Watts (Springfield, Ore.), head golf coach at Thurston High School in Springfield, and Johnny Coppedge (Canby, Ore.), former University of Oregon and University of Montana quarterback, are also representing the OGA in this year’s championship.
Karns will tee off on Saturday at 7:20 AM off tee No. 1. Coppedge will tee off during Saturday’s first round of stroke play qualifying at 7:40 AM off the first tee. O’Donnell will start off No. 10 at 12:55 PM, while Hval and Watts will both begin their Senior Amateur journey at 1:55 PM off No. 1 and No. 10, respectively.
