Gigi Stoll Wins 25th Oregon Women's Stroke Play; Chris Maletis Takes Home Title in 10th Oregon Super Senior Championship

PORTLAND, ORE. - Gigi Stoll (Tigard, Ore.) won on the third playoff hole to earn the title at the 25th Oregon Women’s Stroke Play Championship on Wednesday, held August 4-5 at Rock Creek Country Club in Portland, Ore. Chris Maletis (Portland, Ore.) won the 10th Oregon Super Senior Championship, which was held concurrently with the Women’s Stroke Play.

Stoll, who lost in a playoff in this event in 2014 to Aram Choi, defeated Brie Stone (Veneta, Ore.) on the third playoff hole for her first Oregon Women’s Stroke Play title. The two golfers both shot rounds of 73-77 – 150 (+6), with no player shooting under par at the tough-playing Rock Creek Country Club.

Wednesday marked Stoll’s second OGA win in 2015, following her Oregon Women’s Amateur title back in June. Stone, who has won the Women’s Stroke Play in 1999, 2001 and 2012, will move toward next weekend’s Oregon Mid-Amateur, when she will attempt to win an unprecedented sixth straight Women’s title.

First round leader Kylie Martens (Beaverton, Ore.) finished in third place, shooting an 80 on Wednesday to go with Tuesday’s 74. Hayley Mortenson (Tualatin, Ore.) earned fourth place with scores of 77-78 – 155 (+11).

Anita Wicks (Roseburg, Ore.) earned her third-consecutive Oregon Senior Women’s Stroke Play title, defeating Loree McKay (Hillsboro, Ore.) by three shots. Wicks’ two-day total was 76-72 – 148 (+4). Wicks and McKay were tied overall at the turn on Wednesday, but Wicks finished strong, shooting 1-under par 35 on the back nine.

Rusty Beckel (Oak Grove, Ore.) cruised to a win in the Super Senior Division, shooting scores of 76-81 – 157 (+13).
