Hannah O'Sullivan and Muni He Advance to the 2015 U.S. Women's Open

Woodburn, Ore. - Hannah O’Sullivan (Chandler, Ariz.) finished with scores of 69-70 – 139 (-5) to earn medalist honors, while Muni He (Rancho Santa Fe, Calif.) won a playoff on the second hole, as both players earned their spot into the 2015 U.S. Women’s Open after sectional qualifying held at the OGA Golf Course in Woodburn, Ore. on Tuesday.

O’Sullivan and He, the top two qualifiers, each received a spot into this year’s U.S. Women’s Open, being held at Lancaster Country Club in Lancaster, Pa. from July 9-12.

He, 15, defeated Megan Heckeroth (La Quinta, Calif.) on the second playoff hole to earn the final spot into this year’s championship. He finished with scores of 72-70 – 142 (-2) and Heckeroth shot a two-round total of 74-68 – 142. Heckeroth is the first alternate, while Emily Talley (Napa, Calif.) is the second alternate. Talley was leading the field after the first 18 holes after firing a 4-under par 68, but struggled on the second 18 as she fell back into fourth place after a 3-over par 75.

O’Sullivan, 17, also qualified for the 2012 U.S. Women’s Open. She’s coming off an impressive showing at the inaugural U.S. Women’s Amateur Four-Ball Championship, held at the Pacific Dunes course at Bandon Dunes Resort last month. Her and her teammate, Robynn Ree, finished runner-up to champions Mika Lie and Rinko Mitsunaga.

O’Sullivan knew that her past experience, including qualifying once before, would help her in today’s 36-hole qualifier.

“It was nice having the experience,” said O’Sullivan. “I’ve played in several U.S. Open qualifiers now. I’ve been successful, and I’ve also come really close, painfully close. So I just took everything I learned from those experiences and applied it to today, and played my own game and luckily it worked out.”
