Help a Junior Golfer Play More Golf
Watching the recent Drive, Chip, and Putt Championship televised on TV and the wonderful smiles on the faces of the kids (including Oregon’s own Sam Pyon and Jessica Ponce) confirms the fun that golf can be for many young people. We need your help to provide even more junior golfers access to this great game.
Through a partnership with the Oregon Golf Association and Oregon Junior Golf, we’ve created two programs for young people to enjoy the game:
The Erling Jacobsen Tour was established in 1996. It provides non-competitive golf outings for youth ages 7 – 17 at an affordable price, ($9.00 - $14.00), which includes non-competitive round of golf, lunch, raffle prizes, and short instruction on Rules & Etiquette. In 2014, the Erling Jacobsen Tour had 479 rounds played over 15 events. With 15 stops again in 2015, we will see 600 rounds, all for FUN (and smiles).
- The second program, ‘Youth on Course’ provides $5 green fees for kids ages 7-17. Aspiring junior golfers are educated through an online curriculum and must demonstrate their knowledge of the Rules of Golf, Course Etiquette, and Character Development, to earn their annual membership card. This year, our Oregon ‘Youth on Course’ will subsidize nearly 5,000 rounds of golf, partnering with over 30 courses from Vancouver to Eugene, and funding rounds for nearly 1,000 youth ages 7-17. Participating courses receive a $5.00 - $10.00 rebate from the fund we’ve established for each young player that participates. We plan on expanding to central and southern Oregon in 2016.
The Oregon Golf Association and Oregon Junior Golf has insisted on creating the Jacobsen Youth Initiative in honor of these two programs we’ve developed and championed to provide additional access to the game for kids.
A thank you note from one of our Youth on Course participants:
I just wanted to let you know how thankful I am for the Jacobsen Youth Initiative. This summer (2014) with my Youth on Course card, I can play almost whenever I want. Last summer I barely played 18 holes because it was so expensive. My friends also have the card, and I am setting up times to play with them. My little brother and I really enjoyed the Glendoveer Erling Jacobsen tournament. I totally agree with Mr. Jacobsen – the most important thing about golf is having fun.
-Graham Moody, Age 10
Our family has personally contributed financially to these programs over the years, I’m hoping you’re willing to help do the same.
- I have secured an anonymous supporter who has pledged a challenge gift, to match all funds raised through this appeal 100% up to $20,000!
- A $100.00 gift will provide 40 rounds this summer (with matching grant)
It is a personal goal that young people throughout Oregon and SW Washington can have affordable access to the game that teaches so many of life’s values as well as produce even more smiles.
Your support will allow us to fund rounds of golf for young people providing them the resources to be successful both on and off the course.
Thank you for your consideration.
Sincerely,
David Jacobsen
