Jacobs Falls in U.S. Women's Mid-Am Quarterfinals
HOUSTON, TX. - Amanda Jacobs (Portland, Ore.) fell in the quarterfinals at the 2017 U.S. Women's Mid-Amateur Championship, held Nov. 11-16 at Champions Golf Club in Houston, Texas.
This marked the second-consecutive year that Jacobs advanced to the quarters of the national championship, after doing so in 2016.
Jacobs lost in 19 holes to Marissa Mar (San Francisco, Calif.), despite being 2-up with two holes to play. Mar would go on to par the first extra hole after winning both the 17th and 18th holes.
The quarterfinal appearance for Jacobs marked the end of an impressive 2017 season. Recently named the 2017 PNGA Women's Mid-Amateur Player of the Year, Jacobs advanced to the championship match of this year's Oregon Women's Amateur, ultimately falling to champion Gigi Stoll in the finals. She advanced to the semifinals of the PNGA Women's Mid-Amateur Championship, and earned third place finishes at both the OGA Tournament of Champions and Oregon Women's Mid-Amateur Championship.
Gretchen Johnson (Portland, Ore.) also played in this month's U.S. Women's Mid-Amateur Championship, advancing to match play but ultimately falling in the round of 64 to Leigh Klasse (Cumberland, Wis.). The appearance ended a similarly impressive 2017 campaign for Johnson, who won the season-opening OGA Tournament of Champions and earned a runner-up finish at this year's PNGA Women's Mid-Amateur Championship. Johnson also advanced to the quarterfinals of the Oregon Women's Amateur and earned a top-5 finish at the Oregon Women's Mid-Amateur.
