Junior America's Cup Teams Announced

The 2014 Oregon Junior Stroke Play Championship also serves as the last opportunity for Oregon Junior Golfers to earn points for Junior America’s Cup teams, one of the most prestigious honors a junior player can achieve.

Following completion of today’s play, Team Captains Steve Hagen and Mary Harrington announced the teams for the 2014 Junior America’s Cup and Girl’s Junior America’s Cup.
Team Oregon players named to the team include:

Cole Madey, 17, of West Linn, Ore., who finished runner up at the 84th Bob Norquist Oregon Junior Amateur Championship, won the 2014 Centennial Junior Championship and qualified for the 2014 US Junior Amateur Championship.

Brian Humphreys, 16, of Washougal, Wash., who won the 2014 Peter Jacobsen Junior Challenge, qualified for the 2014 Junior Amateur Championship and made it to the round of 16 at the 84th Bob Norquist Oregon Junior Amateur Championship.

Alex Wrenn, 17, of Lake Oswego, Ore., who was a Semi-Finalist at the 84th Bob Norquist Oregon Junior Amateur Championship, finished second at the 2014 Peter Jacobsen Junior Challenge and qualified for the 2014 US Junior Amateur.

Riley Elmes, 17, of Lake Oswego, Ore., who was the medalist during Stroke Play qualifying and eventually went on to  win the 84th Oregon Junior Amateur Championship.

The Junior America’s Cup Team Matches will be held July 27-31 at Shaughnessy Golf and Country Club in Vancouver, BC. Established in 1973 in Pebble Beach, Calif., the Junior America’s Cup is held annually on a rotating basis through the western United States, Canada and Mexico.

Team Oregon players named to the 2014 Girl’s Junior America’s Cup Team include:

Kaitlin Collom, 17, of Klamath Falls, Ore., who finished runner up at the 84th Bob Norquist Oregon Junior Amateur Championship and first at the 2014 Peter Jacobsen Junior Challenge.

Ellen Secor, 16, of Portland, Ore., who won the 2014 Centennial Junior Championship and finished 3rd at the 2014 Peter Jacobsen Junior Challenge.

Jenny Krause, 16, of Eugene, Ore., who was a Semi-Finalist at the 84th Bob Norquist Oregon Junior Amateur Championship, qualified for the 2014 US Girl’s Junior Amateur and finished 2nd at the 2014 Peter Jacobsen Junior Challenge.

Madison Odiorne, 17, of Bend, Ore., who made it to the Quarter Finals at the 84th Bob Norquist Oregon Junior Amateur Championship, finished T4 at the 2014 Peter Jacobsen Junior Challenge, and qualified for the 2014 US Girl’s Junior Amateur.

The Girl’s Junior America’s Cup (GJAC), which is held on a rotating basis throughout  the western United States, Canada and Mexico, will return this summer to Washington, the state of its origin in 1978. This year’s event, which hosts an international field of the finest junior girl golfers from each region, will be held July  29-31 at Walla Walla Country Club. The first GJAC tournament was held at Tumwater Valley Golf Course in Olympia, Wash.

Oregon Junior Golf seeks to promote life skills and values to kids through the game of golf. Since its inception, over 10,000 young golfers between the ages of 8 and 17 have participated in Oregon Junior Golf.  The Oregon Golf Association established Oregon Junior Golf Fund, Inc. (OJGF) as a 501(c)(3) charitable foundation for the purpose of introducing children to the sport as well as develop competitive junior golfers.
