87th Bob Norquist Oregon Junior Amateur: Golfers Persevere Despite Windy Conditions

BANDON, Ore. - The first day of stroke play at the 87th Oregon Junior Amateur Championship was held on one of the finest resort courses on the Pacific Northwest. Competition on the first day (7/3) was held on a blustery Bandon Dunes and Old Macdonald golf course with winds reaching highs of 35mph.

Playing Bandon Dunes were the Girls (15-18), Int. Girls (12-14) and Int. Boys (12-13).The stroke play medalist at Bandon for Girls (15-18) was Ellie Slama (Salem, Ore.) shooting a 76. The medalist for Intermediate Girls (12-14) was Baylee Hammerickson (Medford, Ore.) also shooting 76. The Division winner for Int. Boys (12-13) was Ethan Tseng (Portland, Ore.) who shot an impressive even par 72.

 Old MacDonald was played by the Boys (14-15) and Jr. Boys (16-18) Divisions. The stroke play medalist for Jr. Boys (16-18) was Nate Stember (Portland, Ore.) who fired an honorable even par 72. Boys (14-15) was lead by Brody Marconi (Portland, Ore.) who shot 75.

The Pee Wee Divisions completed their stroke play round on Bandon Dunes (7/4) on a moderately windy and sun filled day. The Boys Pee-Wee Division was lead by Adam Wrenn (Lake Oswego, Ore.) who shot 41 on the back side. The Girls Pee-Wee Division was lead by Natalie Yen (West Linn, Ore.) who fired an impressive 39 on the back side.  

The players will now compete playing individual match play through the end of the week with the finals on Friday, July 7th.
