Brian Humphreys Qualifies for 2017 U.S. Amateur

MEDFORD, ORE. – Brian Humphreys (Washougal, Wash.) earned the sole qualifying spot on Monday for the 2017 U.S. Amateur Championship, after sectional qualifying was held on Monday, July 24th at Centennial Golf Club in Medford, Ore.

Humphreys, runner-up at the Oregon Amateur the past two years and a rising sophomore at Boise State University, fired rounds of 66-67 – 133 (-11) during the 36-hole qualifier. He compiled just two bogeys during Monday’s two rounds, and ended his first 18-holes with four consecutive birdies. During the second 18-holes, Humphreys added four more birdies and an eagle on the par-5 second hole.

Humphreys has good history at Centennial Golf Club. Last August, Humphreys earned a T3 finish at the 2016 Oregon Men’s Stroke Play Championship held at Centennial, shooting 8-under par over the three days.

Edwin Yi (Los Angeles, Calif.), a rising junior at the University of Oregon, earned first alternate honors after finishing at 9-under par for the 36-hole qualifier. Emmett Oh (Calgary, AB), recent champion of the 2017 Pacific Northwest Men’s Amateur Championship, is the second alternate, after winning in a playoff against Sean Yi (Auburn, Wash.).

The 2017 U.S. Amateur Championship will be held August 14-20, 2017 at The Riviera Golf Club and Bel-Air Country Club, located in Pacific Palisades and Los Angeles, Calif., respectively.
