Brad Karns, Brad Carey Qualify for 2017 U.S. Senior Amateur

WOODBURN, ORE.  – Brad Karns (Vancouver, Wash.) earned medalist honors while Brad Carey (Lake Oswego, Ore.) took the second qualifying spot for the 2017 U.S. Senior Amateur, after sectional qualifying took place on Monday at the OGA Golf Course in Woodburn, Ore.

Two qualifying spots were available in Monday’s 18-hole sectional qualifier. The 2017 U.S. Senior Amateur Championship will be held August 26-31, 2017 at The Minikahda Club in Minneapolis, Minn.

Karns dominated a talented field by firing the only under-par score of the day, a 4-under par 68. He tallied three birdies on the front nine, adding two more on the back, including a birdie on the par-4 18th hole.

Karns earned medalist honors by five shots over Monday’s second individual qualifier, Carey. Carey cumulated an up-and-down day, totaling four bogeys and a double-bogey, but countered nicely with five birdies. His 1-over par 73 was just enough to earn himself a trip to Minnesota in late August.

Bob Harrington (Portland, Ore.) earned the first alternate spot after a four-way tie at 2-over par, just out of qualifying position.
