Krause, a rising senior at San Diego State University, fired an even-par round of 72 on Tuesday to lead the field by one shot. The 2016 Oregon Women’s Public Links champion started off hot, birdieing three of the first seven holes and finishing the front nine at 2-under par. Bogies on the 10th and 11th holes, both par-5s, made way for seven consecutive pars to finish her round.
In second place sits Rosie Cook (Bend, Ore.) and Victoria Gailey (Tigard, Ore.) at 2-over par. Cook recently finished T5 at this year’s Oregon Women’s Mid-Amateur, and also advanced to the round of 16 at the 2017 Oregon Women’s Amateur Championship. Gailey is a rising senior at Tigard High School who’s finished runner-up at this year Oregon Junior Amateur and Oregon Junior Stroke Play Championships. She’s finished in the top-10 of the OSAA 6A Girls Golf Championship in each of the three years that she’s competed.
Three college players sit in a tie for fourth at 3-over par – Eastern Washington’s Madalyn Ardueser (Eugene, Ore.), the University of Houston’s Amanda Elich (Camas, Wash.), and Portland State’s Hannah Swanson (Forest Grove, Ore.). Swanson won this event last year.
In the Senior Women’s Championship, Wicks recovered from a bumpy start to shoot a 1-over par 74 (the par for the Senior Women’s Division is 73). While Wicks shot 39 (+4) on the front, she birdied three of the final four holes to establish herself as the clear leader heading into Wednesday’s final round. Wicks is a three-time champion of this event from 2013-15.
In second sits Ginny Burkey (Eugene, Ore.), who is at 4-over par. Three notable players – Marcia Fisher (Molalla, Ore.), Loree McKay (Portland, Ore.), and Charisse Spada (Portland, Ore.) – are tied for third at 6-over par.
