2017 Oregon Amateur Four-Ball -- Teams to Watch
BLACK BUTTE RANCH, ORE. - The 2nd Oregon Amateur Four-Ball Championship features players and sides from all walks of life. Current and former college players, mid-amateurs, senior mainstays, and accomplished OGA competitors will all take the course on Saturday looking to win this year's edition of the OGA's newest event.
Below are a few teams to watch this week at Black Butte Ranch and the Big Meadow Course.
Robbie Ziegler (Portland, Ore.) and Connor Rumpf (Sherwood, Ore.)Both of these players are former collegiate golfers - Rumpf at Hawaii Pacific University and Ziegler at the University of Oregon. Ziegler has had a succesful past few years, including qualifying for the 2016 U.S. Amateur Championship and representing the OGA at the last two PNGA Cups. He also finished fourth in the 2016 Oregon Mid-Amateur and T11 at this year's Oregon Men's Stroke Play. |
John and Jack Pennington (Eugene, Ore.)
The father/son Pennington duo is in the Four-Ball competition for the second-consecutive year. Jack, the younger of the Pennington's, had a stellar finish at last month's Oregon Mid-Amateur Championship, where he tied for third. John is a mainstay in OGA competitions.

Calum Hill and Trevor Yu (Corvallis, Ore.)
This side contains two Oregon State Beavers. Yu will be entering his junior season at OSU, while Hill just completed his playing career in Corvallis. In 2016-17, Yu was selected to the Pac-12 All-Academic Second Team and finished T9 at the Bandon Dunes Championship. Hill earned two top-10 finishes in his career at Oregon State, including firing an 8-under par 63 at the Alister MacKenzie Invitational, equaling the lowest 18-hole total in OSU history.

Richie Mikesell (Bend, Ore.) and Brett Wolvert (Wilsonville, Ore.)
Mikesell and Wolvert is a team to keep an eye on. Mikesell, a recent graduate of Western Albany High School, finished runner-up at the 2016 Oregon Junior Amateur Championship. Wolvert, a former collegiate golfer at the University of Evansville, earned medalist honors at an Oregon Amateur qualifier this year at Stone Creek Golf Club.

Leilani Norman and Ginny Burkey (Eugene, Ore.)
Burkey advanced to last year's final, but has a new playing partner this year in Norman. Norman finished second at the 2017 Oregon Women's Mid-Amateur Championship, and is a two-time Oregon Senior Women's Amateur champion. Burkey recently finished second at this month's Oregon Senior Women's Stroke Play Championship.

Kailin Downs (Oregon City, Ore.) and Amy Anderson (Bend, Ore.)
This side features two former collegiate golfers. Downs, who played at Oregon State, won the Oregon Women's Amateur Championship in 2001. Downs now coaches the Women's Golf Team at Portland State. Anderson played at Weber State University and played in the Inaugural Oregon Amateur Four-Ball in 2016.

Scott Hval and Randy Mahar (Portland, Ore.)
The Hval/Mahar side is a new addition for the 2017 Four-Ball. Both players are extremely successful OGA competitors - Hval won three-consecutive Oregon Senior Men's Amateur titles from 2011-13, and is a former Oregon Amateur champion. Mahar is a two-time Oregon Senior Men's Stroke Play champion.

Jack Schneider (Oregon City, Ore.) and Byron Patton (Tigard, Ore.)
Schneider and Patton are both competitors who play out of Eastmoreland Golf Course in Portland. Schneider has represented the Eastmoreland Men's Club numerous times at the OGA Men's Team Championship. Patton won the 2012 Oregon Public Links Championship and finished runner-up at the 2014 Oregon Senior Men's Stroke Play Championship.

Ron Hop (Dayton, Ore.) and Tom Prevost (McMinnville, Ore.)
Hop and Prevost have had plenty of success in recent years. Hop advanced to the semifinals of the 2014 Oregon Senior Men's Amateur Championship. Prevost qualified for the 2015 U.S. Senior Amateur Championship.
