AARON WISE WINS THE AT&T BYRON NELSON:  In just his 26th career start on the PGA TOUR, former University of Oregon standout Aaron Wise carded rounds of 65-63-68-65–261 (-23) to earn his first TOUR win at the AT&T Byron Nelson. Wise, who earned his TOUR card last August here in Portland, became the youngest winner on TOUR since fellow Portland Open alum Si Woo Kim took home THE PLAYERS Championship in 2017 (21 years, 10 months, 29 days) and the second youngest to win the AT&T Byron Nelson, just six months and 11 days older than Tiger Woods was when he won the Texas event. Wise’s win moved him to No. 18 in the FedExCup standings where he is the highest ranked rookie.

Wise garnered national attention after winning the 2016 NCAA Individual Championship, becoming the first University of Oregon golfer to achieve the feat. He followed his title up by leading the school to their first team National Championship days later as they defeated the University of Texas at Eugene Country Club. Wise recently sat down for a Q&A, discussing everything from his favorite club in the bag to his pre-law studies at the University of Oregon. You can read the full interview here.

500 PGA TOUR WINS BY WEB.COM TOUR ALUMS:  Wise’s three shot victory at the AT&T Byron Nelson marked the 500th win on the PGA TOUR by Web.com Tour alums. In existence since 1990, the Web.com Tour has produced major champions, Ryder Cup stars and seen some of the most recognizable players in the game launch their careers here. “The Web.com Tour is producing high caliber professional golfers ready to compete on the PGA TOUR” said Web.com Tour CEO David Brown. “Congratulations to Aaron on the win and for demonstrating the power of the Web.com Tour.”

Titles currently held by Web.com Tour alums include THE PLAYERS Champion (Webb Simpson), PGA TOUR Rookie of the Year (Xander Schauffele), World Number One and PGA TOUR Player of the Year (Justin Thomas) and U.S. Ryder Cup captain (Jim Furyk).

JAKE OWEN HEADLINES NASHVILLE GOLF OPEN FIELD:  The Web.com Tour travels back to the Volunteer State this week for the third playing of the Nashville Golf Open Benefitting the Snedeker Foundation. Headlining the field at Nashville Golf & Athletic Club is country music star Jake Owen, who will compete in the event as an amateur after receiving an unrestricted sponsor exemption. Owen has participated in several PGA TOUR pro-ams and partnered with Jordan Spieth in each of the last five years of the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am. Owen will be joined by a strong field of professionals, including 44 Tour winners, 11 PGA TOUR winners and three major championship winners (Angel Cabrera, Shaun Micheel and Mike Weir).

NUMBERS TO KNOW
11 – Since the inception of the Web.com Tour, eleven former and current professional athletes have competed in an event on an unrestricted sponsor exemption. Major League Baseball player Ralph Terry was the first, competing in the 1990 Dakota Dunes Open and ultimately missing the cut at 4-over through 36 holes. Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry was the last to make an appearance, playing in the 2017 Ellie Mae Classic at TPC Stonebrae.

7 – Tour rookie Daniel Mazziotta picked up two aces during the BMW Charity Pro-Am, moving his ace count to seven in the past 18 months. Mazziotta has carded these hole-in-ones during tournament rounds, sanctioned practice rounds and Monday qualifiers.

1 – The money list leader after the first event of the season has only finished the season at No. 1 on the money list once, with Jimmy Walker remaining atop the list in 2004. Walker bounced around the money list that season, spending eight-consecutive weeks at the top before falling. He reclaimed the spot 13 weeks later, spending the last seven weeks of the season at the top.

2018 WEB.COM TOUR MEMBER TO WATCH

Roberto Castro – 32 – Atlanta, Georgia

Roberto Castro has been on a heater this season, carding five top-25 finishes in eight events, including four-consecutive top-10s. The 32-year-old picked up a runner-up performance at the Savannah Golf Championship, and then followed the week with T7, T5 and T8 finishes before carding a T14 at last week’s BMW Charity Pro-Am. Castro sits tied with Sungjae Im for most top-10s on the season. He has yet to miss a cut in his last 22 Web.com Tour starts (leading the statistical category of consecutive cuts made) and leads the Tour in scoring average (actual) with an average of 69.45. He sits at No. 9 on the Regular Season money list.
