Justin Kadin & Gigi Stoll Earn Medalist Honors at 109th Oregon Amateur

BEND, Ore. – Justin Kadin (Corvallis, Ore.) and Gigi Stoll (Tigard, Ore.) earned medalist honors on Tuesday during stroke play qualifying at the 109th Oregon Amateur Championship, held this week at Bend Golf Club in Bend, Ore.

With stroke play qualifying over, the men’s field was cut to the top-64 players for match play competition beginning Wednesday. The women’s field will also begin match play on Wednesday; with the field at 26 players, the top six seeds have a bye into the round of 16, which will take place Thursday.

Kadin, 28, fired a 4-under par 68 on Tuesday, the lowest score of the day in the men’s field. He tallied four birdies on his back nine, including two in the final five holes to put him at 5-under par for stroke play qualifying after rounds of 71-68 – 139. Kadin is a former college golfer at the University of Idaho who now caddies at nearby Tetherow Resort in Bend.

Tying Kadin for men’s medalist honors was Trevor Harding (Portland, Ore.). Harding birdied two of his final four holes to finish qualifying with round of 69-70 – 139 (-5). The former University of Portland golfer and Kadin went to a playoff to determine medalist honors, with Kadin birdieing the first playoff hole to secure the No. 1 seed.

With Harding the No. 2 seed, incoming University of Oregon freshman Craig Ronne (Klamath Falls, Ore.) finished in third place after stroke play qualifying. The 18-year old two-time Class 4A state champion, playing in his first Oregon Amateur, shot scores of 69-71 – 140 (-4). In 2017, Ronne won both the Oregon Junior Amateur and Oregon Junior Stroke Play, earning Oregon Junior Golfer of the Year honors, as well.

Adam Harrington (Portland, Ore.) of Portland Golf Club, and rising sophomore Spencer Tibbits (Vancouver, Wash.) of Oregon State tied for fourth place at 3-under par (141). Harrington is the No. 4 seed and Tibbits is the No. 5 seed.

In the Women’s field, Stoll, 21, earned medalist honors by an astounding nine shots, finishing with rounds of 66-68 – 134 (-10). Her 6-under par 66 on Monday broke the course record, and she compiled five more birdies on Tuesday. The three-time Oregon Women’s Amateur winner (2014, 2015, 2017) and defending champion gets a bye in the round of 32 and will play her round of 16 match on Thursday.

Ellen Secor (Portland, Ore.) of Colorado State earned the No. 2 seed in match play after finishing with scores of 71-72 – 143 (-1). The rising junior shot a 5-over par 41 on her first nine of the tournament on Monday, but came back with a 6-under par 30 on the back nine. She tripled the par-5 fourth hole on Tuesday, but rebounded with three-straight birdies to finish her round. Secor was the Women’s medalist at last year’s Oregon Amateur.

Oregon State’s Ellie Slama (Salem, Ore.) finished at even par (144) and will be the No. 3 seed in match play. Amanda Elich (Camas, Wash.), college player at the University of Houston, is the No. 4 seed, while 2015 Oregon Women’s Amateur runner-up Madison Odiorne (Bend, Ore.) is the No. 5 seed. Odiorne plays for Washington State.
