88th Bob Norquist Oregon Junior Amateur Begins June 25 at Astoria G&CC

WARRENTON, Ore. ­­– The 88th Bob Norquist Oregon Junior Amateur Championship begins Monday, June 25 at Astoria Golf & Country Club, running through Friday, June 29.

This year’s Championship will include two new Junior Amateur champions. Last year’s winners, Ellie Slama (Salem, Ore.) and Craig Ronne (Klamath Falls, Ore.) participated in last week’s 109th Oregon Amateur Championship; Slama earned the Women’s title, while Ronne advanced to the round of 32 in the Men’s field.

The Junior Amateur features five 18-hole divisions – Junior Boys (ages 16-18), Girls (ages 15-18), Boys (ages 14-15), Intermediate Girls (ages 12-14) and Intermediate Boys (ages 12-13). The Junior Boys, Girls, and Boys divisions will play one round of 18-hole stroke play qualifying on Monday before beginning match play on Tuesday. The Intermediate Boys and Girls divisions will play 36-holes of stroke play before beginning match play on Wednesday.

The 9-hole divisions – Pee Wee Boys (ages 8-11) and Pee Wee Girls (ages 8-11) – will play their 9-hole stroke play qualifying on Tuesday and will begin match play on Wednesday.

Final matches for all divisions will take place on Friday, June 29.

The Oregon Junior Amateur has a storied history, with notable champions including Mary Budke, Carole Jo Kabler, Jason Allred, Jerry Mowlds, Bob Rannow and Julie Wells. Recent champions within the past 15 years include notable names such as Robbie Ziegler, Ellie Slama, Monica Vaughn, Gigi Stoll, Spencer Tibbits and Jack Dukeminier.

Astoria Golf & Country Club, located in Warrenton, last hosted the Oregon Junior Amateur in 1994, also hosting the Championship in 1975.
