Stroke Play Complete at 2018 Oregon Junior Amateur
WARRENTON, Ore. – Four more stroke play medalists were crowned on Tuesday at the 88th Bob Norquist Oregon Junior Amateur Championship, held this week at Astoria Golf & Country Club in Warrenton, Ore.
With all of stroke play qualifying finished, all divisions will be playing in match play going forward. The Junior Boys (ages 16-18), Girls (ages 15-18) and Boys (ages 14-15) divisions began match play on Tuesday.
In the Intermediate Boys (ages 12-13) division, Simon Grey (Lake Oswego, Ore.) and Eli Huntington (Camas, Wash.) tied for the top spot in the division after both finishing at 153 (+9) after two rounds of stroke play. In the medalist playoff to determine the No. 1 seed in match play, Grey defeated Huntington on the first playoff hole.
After Grey and Huntington, Adam Wrenn (Lake Oswego, Ore.) finished in third, while Tye Dechativong (Beaverton, Ore.) and Elliot Lee (Tillamook, Ore.) tied for fourth.
Emily Song (Beaverton, Ore.) dominated stroke play qualifying in the Intermediate Girls (ages 12-14) division, earning medalist honors by seven shots after shooting 77-77 – 154 (+8). Jacinda Lee (Camas, Wash.) earned second place, and Cierra Ferguson (Lake Oswego, Ore.) finished in third.
Another medalist playoff that occurred on Tuesday took place in the Pee Wee Boys (ages 8-11) division. Grady Kane (West Linn, Ore.) and Alex Tseng (Portland, Ore.) both shot 38 (+1) in 9-hole stroke play qualifying. Kane earned medalist honors after a playoff that lasted two holes.
Ryan Klampe (Florence, Ore.) and Grady Millar (Vancouver, Wash.) both tied for third at 2-over par (39).
Pee Wee Girls (ages 8-11) division medalist honors was won by Natalie Yen (West Linn, Ore.) after she fired a 2-over par 39. Cassie Kennon (Bandon, Ore.) finished in second place after shooting 41 (+4).
