Six OGA Members to Compete in Upcoming U.S. Mid-Am, Women’s Mid-Am

CHARLOTTE, N.C. and ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Six players from Oregon and Southwest Washington will be competing in the upcoming 2018 U.S. Mid-Amateur and U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur Championships. The men’s Mid-Amateur will take place Sept. 22-27 at Charlotte Country Club in Charlotte, N.C., while the Women’s Mid-Amateur will commence at the same time at Norwood Hills Country Club in St. Louis, Mo.

Michael Johansen (Vancouver, Wash.), Taylor Klopp (Portland, Ore.), Travis Milleman (Portland, Ore.) and Chris Polski (Eugene, Ore.) will all play in North Carolina beginning on Saturday. All four qualified through the sectional qualifier held in August at Oswego Lake Country Club in Lake Oswego, Ore.

Johansen is a former OGA champion, winning the 2012 Oregon Men’s Stroke Play Championship. Klopp played golf at Linfield University in McMinnville, where he was the Northwest Conference Player of the Year in 2015 and a two-time All-America Scholar.

A former Oregon State University golfer, Milleman won the 2017 Arizona Mid-Amateur Championship, and in July, earned a T3 finish at this year’s Oregon Men’s Stroke Play Championship. Polski is the Associate Head Coach for both the Men’s and Women’s Golf Teams at Northwest Christian University in Eugene. He was the Oregon Amateur runner-up in 2009 and a quarterfinalist in 2017.

The women’s field will be represented by standouts Amanda Jacobs (Portland, Ore.) and Gretchen Johnson (Portland, Ore.). Both have excelled in local, regional and national competitions the past few years, with Jacobs advancing to the quarterfinals of the last two U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateurs. Due to her recent success in the championship, she was exempt from qualifying for this year’s event.

In 2018, Jacobs has won the Pacific Northwest Women’s Mid-Amateur Championship, as well as advanced to the quarterfinals of the Oregon Women’s Amateur. She finished runner-up in the 2017 Oregon Women’s Amateur.

Johnson has won back-to-back OGA Women’s Tournament of Champions titles and earned runner-up at this year’s Oregon Women’s Mid-Amateur Championship. Johnson lost to Jacobs in the finals at the 2018 Pacific Northwest Women’s Mid-Amateur Championship. In last year’s U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur, Johnson advanced to match play before falling in the round of 64

In 2016, Jacobs and Johnson together won the Inaugural Oregon Women’s Amateur Four-Ball Championship.
