Arey and Cheremnov Co-Medalists at 1st Oregon Amateur Qualifier at Quail Valley GC
Banks, Ore. - The first of three qualifiers for the 105th Oregon Amateur Championship was held at the 6,565-yard, par-72, Quail Golf Valley Course in Banks, Ore. today. At the qualifier for the Men's division, 35 golfers out of the 71 competing automatically advanced to the Championship proper which will be held June 16 - 21 at the OGA Golf Course in Woodburn, Ore.
Medalist honors went to Hogan Arey, of Corvallis, Ore. and Daniel Cheremnov, of Woodburn Ore. Both players finished their rounds with a score of 2-under par 70. Aery, who is a freshman on the University of Louisiana Monroe’s Men’s golf team, managed his day with five birdies and three bogeys. Cheremnov, a member and frequently player at the OGA Golf Course looks to capitalize on his course knowledge at the Oregon Amateur, bettered Arey’s birdie count with six but followed up with four bogeys.
A playoff for the last spot occurred with those players that finished at 6-over par. Only six of the nine players showed and after two holes it became a match between Jack Pennington, of Eugene, Ore. and Eric Wilsey of Vancouver, Wash. It was Pennington who finally won on the last hole joining those headed to Woodburn.
Arey and Cheremnov now joins 31 exempt players in the championship including such notables as Thomas Lim, runner up at the 2013 Oregon Amateur and Scott Hval, reigning Oregon Senior Amateur Champion and winner of three straight Senior titles.
The remaining qualifiers are scheduled for June 3 at Stone Creek Golf Club in Oregon City, Ore. and June 8 at the Widgi Creek Golf Course in Bend, Ore. For complete results, CLICK HERE
