OGA to Administer USGA Local Qualifying Events in Late April
The Oregon Golf Association will administer two USGA sectional qualifying events – U.S. Women’s Open and U.S. Senior Women’s Open.
The 2019 U.S. Women’s Open Sectional Qualifier will be held at OGA Golf Course on Thursday, April 25, while the U.S. Senior Women’s Open Sectional Qualifier will be played at Tualatin Country Club on Monday, April 29.
There are 57 entrants – 42 amateurs and 15 professionals – in the U.S. Women’s Open sectional qualifying field, with two spots available for the U.S. Women’s Open at the Country Club of Charleston (Charleston, S.C.). That event is scheduled for May 30-June 2, 2019.
Local players attempting to qualify include: Sophie Dalfonsi (Bend), Elise Filuk (Camas), Yun-Chu Huang (Portland), Sydney Maluenda (Beaverton), Amy Simonton (Lake Oswego), Alexa Udom (Portland), Monica Vaughn (Eugene) and Yvonne Vinceri (Portland).
On the senior women’s side, there are 10 entrants – eight amateurs and two professionals – competing for two spots into the U.S. Senior Women’s Open. That championship is scheduled for May 15-19 at Pine Needles Lodge & Golf Club in Southern Pines, N.C.
Local players attempting to qualify include: Sara Killeen (Portland), Debby King (Eugene)and Charisse Spada (Portland).
A year ago, the inaugural year for the U.S. Senior Women's Open, King and Lara Tennant qualified for the event held at at Chicago Golf Club in Wheaton, Ill.
