Tibbits Shoots 74 in Opening Round of U.S. Open
Spencer Tibbits carded a 3-over par 74 in the first round of the U.S. Open Championship at Pebble Beach. Tibbits, from Vancouver, Wash., is one of 15 amateur players competing in the national championship.
He opened the round 1-under through the first six holes, with birdies at No. 4 and 6, and a bogey in between on No. 5. Tibbits, who was even par on the front nine, had three bogeys on the back nine to finish the round in a tie for 98th.
Friday’s second round tee time for Tibbits is slated for 8:57am. He will be joined in the group by Hayden Shieh and Connor Arendell.
Tibbits qualified for the U.S. Open Championship through a local qualifier at Gold Mountain Golf Course in Bremerton, Wash., followed by the sectional at Wine Valley Golf Club in Walla Walla.
