The tandem of Billy Pollock and Jack Pennington won the open division while Bradley Karns and Mark Bowler triumphed in the senior division at the 4th Oregon Amateur Four-Ball Championship played July 14-17 at Emerald Valley Golf Club in Creswell.
Pollock-Pennington defeated top-seed Alec Berrey and Nick Van Vleet in Wednesday’s championship match. The winning duo jumped out to a lead on the first hole and never looked back, holding a 4 up advantage from the 11th hole until the match’s conclusion.
The No. 6 seed in the 23-team match play bracket for the open division championship flight, Pollock-Pennington won matchups against Keith Lobis and Max Dobak (5&3), Joey Herrera and Max Murai (2&1), Chris Polski and JC Riter (1 up) before their win in the final (4&3).
Nine players posted an eagle during the four-day competition. Pollock had an event-best two, the only player with more than one.
Twelve teams battled in the championship flight for the senior division, with the Karns-Bowler tandem defeating Scott Larsen and Wes St. Clair in the final match (3&2).
After an opening round win over Kirk Schwerzler and Phil Barricklow (5&4), the eventual senior champions upset top-seed Tim Cecil and Charlie Rice in the second round (2&1), before a semifinal win over Billy Anderson and Larry Watts (3&2).
Karns led all players in the senior division with 15 birdies over the competition, while Bowler added 10. They were two of 20 players throughout all divisions to have 10 or more birdies during the event.
