Ziegler, Dukeminier Advance to Match Play at U.S. Mid-Amateur
Robbie Ziegler earned the No. 2 seed for match play after recording a pair of low rounds in the stroke-play portion of the 39th U.S. Mid-Amateur Championship played at Colorado Golf Club in Parker, Colo., and CommonGround Golf Course in Aurora, Colo. The six-day competition concludes on Thursday, Sept. 19.
Ziegler, from Portland, posted a 5-under 67 in Saturday’s opening round at Colorado GC and followed that up with an even-par 70 on Sunday at CommonGround.
He faces Nick Geyer in the opening round of match play on Monday at 10:40am (PT).
Jack Dukeminier, from Beaverton, also advanced to the 64-player match play bracket after finishing 11th in stroke play (71-69-140). His opening round match is Monday at 1pm against Michael Jensen.
Ziegler, who was born in Denver, had the lowest round played Saturday at Colorado Golf Club, which measured 7,585 yards. This is Ziegler’s third USGA championship of 2019 following the U.S. Amateur Four-Ball at Bandon Dunes and the U.S. Amateur at Pinehurst.
Philip Bagdade (Portland) and Jack O'Neal (Vancouver, Wash.) also competed but did not advance to match play.
Amanda Jacobs and Gretchen Johnson each advanced to the match-play portion of the event. Jacobs was exempt from qualifying as she is a Top 25 age-eligible points leader in the Women's World Amateur Golf Ranking. Johnson was also exempt as a 2018 U.S. Women's Mid-Amateur semifinalist.
Shannon Kennedy (Portland) competed in the U.S. Women's Mid-Amateur Sept. 14-15 at Forest Highlands Golf Club. She posted scores of 83 and 87 but missed the cut.
