Dukeminier, Ziegler Bow Out in Match Play at U.S. Mid-Am
Jack Dukeminier advance to the Round of 32 and Robbie Ziegler fell in the Round of 64 at the 2019 U.S. Mid-Amateur Championship played Sept. 14-19 at Colorado Golf Club in Parker and CommonGround Golf Course in Aurora, Colo.
Dukeminier, the No. 11 seed in match play, won his opening round match Monday against Michael Jensen, 3&1. In the Round of 32, Dukeminier fell to Jacob Koppenberg, 1 up. Dukeminier is an OGA Member by way of Columbia Edgewater CC.
Ziegler lost his opening round match to Nick Geyer, 4&3. Ziegler had finished up the 36-hole stroke-play portion of the competition in second place at 5-under (67-70-137). But he was one of several top players to be upset in the Round of 64 – seeds 2, 3, 4, 6 and 10.
Ziegler, who was born in Denver, had the lowest stroke-play round on Saturday at Colorado Golf Club, which measured 7,585 yards. This was Ziegler’s third USGA championship of 2019 following the U.S. Amateur Four-Ball at Bandon Dunes and the U.S. Amateur at Pinehurst. Ziegler is an OGA Member through the Redtail Players Club.
Philip Bagdade (Portland) and Jake Oneal (Vancouver, Wash.) also competed but did not advance to match play. Bagdade is an OGA Member through his affiliation with Heron Lakes Golf Club, while Oneal is an OGA Member through Royal Oaks Country Club.
