About the 53rd Hogan Cup
The Hogan Cup 36-hole team matches pit the best junior golfers from the Western United States and Canada against each other in a team format with the three lowest scores each day determining the team total. Awards are presented to the top three teams as well as the top three individuals in the field.
The event began in 1969 as a partnership between Riverside Golf & Country Club and the Oregon Golf Association in commemoration of the vast achievements and contributions to the sport by Eddie Hogan, Riverside’s long-time head golf professional. Hogan served the club from 1939 until his tragic drowning death in 1968. At its inception, the competition was between the Portland Metro All-stars and junior golfers representing the rest of the region.
Hogan, an Oregon Amateur champion and PNGA Amateur Champion, was credited for transforming the role of the golf professional, developing what is now considered the standard for the green grass pro shop. Hogan was also dedicated in helping the Oregon Golf Association develop its widely-recognized junior golf program.
Being selected to compete in Hogan Cup matches is an honor that has been bestowed to few individuals, and the excellence of past participants is indicative of the quality of the small, select field.
Hogan Cup alumni include tour players such as Bobby Clampett, Fred Couples, Joe Rassett, Jack Renner, Lennie Clements, Scott Simpson, Rick Fehr, Robert Gamez, Bill Sanders, Kirk Triplett, Jim Nelford, John Fought, Peter Jacobsen, Jeff Quinney, Casey Martin, Jason Gore, Tiger Woods, Ricky Barnes, and Bryson DeChambeau.
About the Host Association
The Oregon Golf Association (OGA) began hosting the Hogan Cup in 1969 and since its founding in 1992, Oregon Junior Golf has served as the host association.
Oregon Junior Golf Fund, Inc. (OJGF), is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit charitable foundation. Each year, Oregon Junior Golf oversees more than 70 days of competition and more than 6,000 rounds of competitive golf for junior golfers ranging in age from 8 through 17 in its nationally recognized junior golf program for over 1,100 youth in Oregon and SW Washington.
It also has developed one of the premiere regional junior golf competitions in the country, the Hogan Cup. Hogan Cup alumni include tour players from Oregon such as Robert Garrigus, Jason Allred, Peter Jacobsen, Jeff Quinney, and Casey Martin. Players such as Rickie Fowler, Patrick Cantlay, Bobby Clampett, Fred Couples, Joe Rassett, Jack Renner, Lennie Clements, Scott Simpson, Rick Fehr, Robert Gamez, Bill Sanders, Kirk Triplett, Jim Nelford, John Fought, Michael Putnam, Ricky Barnes, Jason Gore, Tiger Woods and Bryson DeChambeau also played in the Hogan Cup.
The region served by the OGA and Oregon Junior Golf has been proud to host more USGA National and International Championships than all but seven other areas of the country. Riverside Golf & Country Club has played an integral part of this rich history.
