Day One Concludes at Oregon Amateur Championship

Sam Renner fired a 6-under par 65 on the men’s side while three players are tied for first in the women’s field after the opening day at the 111th Oregon Amateur Championship in Portland.

Starting his round on Hole No. 10, Renner rolled in three consecutive birdies to open play. The 16-year multi-sport phenom from Bend, birdied five holes on his front nine and added another three in his final nine to secure a three-stroke edge over the rest of the field.

Trevor Harding, Collin Hodgkinson and Hunter Wescott are tied for second at 3-under par.

On the women’s side, Ellie Slama, Amanda Jacobs and Lexi Perry are tied for first after each shot even par 72.

Slama, the two-time defending champion and Oregon State University standout, was 3-over par through her first six holes. The Salem native rallied to finish even par on the round after birdies at No. 9, 15 and 18.

Jacobs, from Portland, finished with two birdies and two bogeys. She was 1-under through 17 holes but posted bogey on No. 18 to finish even par. Perry, a Boise State product from Rancho Murieta, Calif., recorded four birdies offset by four bogeys.

Eleven other players are within three strokes of the lead.
