Stroke Play Qualifying Wraps Up, Wrenn Posts Course Record at Oregon Amateur Championship
Robbie Ziegler (-7) and Lexi Perry (+1) earned individual medalists honors during stroke play qualifying Tuesday at the 111th Oregon Amateur Championship in Portland. Today’s top 64 qualifiers on the men’s side and 32 on the women’s side will compete in a single-elimination match play tournament beginning Wednesday and culminating Saturday afternoon.

Ziegler (69-66), the 2018 Oregon Amateur champion, posted six birdies on Tuesday to finish 5-under par for the day and 7-under for the qualifying rounds. He takes the top seed into match play.
Pat O’Donnell (70-66) and Alex Wrenn (75-61) finished the qualifying rounds tied for second at 6-under par.
Wrenn, from Lake Oswego, fired a second-round 61 to break the course record at Columbia Edgewater Country Club. Wrenn’s score tops the previous record of 64 which was set by Chris Holzang in the 2009 CECC men’s club championship.
He opened today’s round with four birdies in the first five holes. Wrenn made the turn at 4-under par, then went on to birdie six holes – including five straight – down the stretch. He finished the day without a bogey.
O’Donnell, a six-time Oregon Senior Men’s Champion, earned the match play No. 2 seed after carding a second-round 66 to finish 6-under par. The 66-year old from Happy Valley has played near flawless golf over the first two days; his only blemish coming Monday with a double-bogey on Hole No. 7 He is seeking his first Oregon Amateur title.
Earlier in the day it was Perry, from Rancho Murieta Calif., who finished atop the stroke play qualifying on the women’s side. Following yesterday's even-par opening round, Perry posted a 73 on Tuesday to take the top seed going into the match play bracket at 1-over par.
Victoria Gailey (75-71) and Montgomery Ferreira (73-73) finished tied for second at 2-over par. Gailey, who posted a second-round 71, tied with Mary Scott Wolfe (77-71) for the best round of the day.
Alexa Udom (74-73) ended qualifying in fourth at 3-over par. Wolfe and Ellie Slama (73-75) finished tied for fifth at 4-over.
The top 32 qualifiers have advanced to match play on the women’s side. The final is a 36-hole championship match played on Saturday.
The six-day competition runs today through Saturday at Columbia Edgewater Country Club. The course is par 71 and playing at 6,860 yards for the men, while playing 6,101 yards and par 72 for the women.
Wednesday also marks the start of the 37th Oregon Senior Women’s Amateur Championship. That competition includes one stroke play qualifying round, followed by three rounds of match play.
