Swann Moves On, Slama’s Run Ends at U.S. Women’s Am
Kennedy Swann won a pair of matches Friday at the U.S. Women’s Amateur to earn a trip to the quarterfinals. Ellie Slama, who won a Round of 32 match earlier in the day, concluded her run with a loss in the Round of 16.

Despite falling behind two holes at the start of her Round of 16 match, Swann battled back to register a 2&1 win over Isabella Fierro. In her morning match, Swann also posted a 2&1 win, this one coming against Bohyun Park of the Republic of Korea.
Swann, the No. 23 seed, will face No. 2 seed Valery Plata of Columbia in a Saturday morning quarterfinal. The winner will advance to play a semifinal match later that afternoon.
Slama upset the No. 4 seed Phoebe Brinker Friday morning in the Round of 32. That match was all square through 10 holes, then Slama won holes Nos. 11, 12 and 15 before ending the contest on No. 16.
In the afternoon, Slama went up against No. 13 Alyaa Abdulghany of Malaysia. Slama held a 1up advantage through 13 holes, but Abdulghany took three of the next five to end the match on No. 18.
