Stage Set for Second Day at 2014 Portland City/Bob Allard Memorial
After a hot day at Rose City Golf Course in Portland, Ore., on Monday, July 28th, the stage is set for a great second day of golf at the 2014 Portland City/Bob Allard Memorial on Tuesday, July 29th.
Spencer Tibbits (Vancouver, Wash.) and Ben Wanichek (Eugene, Ore.) share the first round lead in the Boys Open Division, both firing a 2-under par 70. Five players are just one shot back of the two leaders. In the Girls Open Division, Ellie Slama (Salem, Ore.) shot a 4-over par round of 77 on Monday and is one shot ahead of Kayla Kozak (Bluffton, S.C.) and Angela Lu (Happy Valley, Ore.).
After a mild morning, temperatures rose to the mid 90’s in the greater Portland area on Monday. The fairways and greens played fast for the juniors, greeting the players with lots of roll and plenty of quickness. Conditions should be similar in the area on Tuesday, as the high temperature is expected to reach 90 degrees yet again.
Other notable scores include Jackson Kennon (Bandon, Ore.), who plays in the Intermediate Boys Division and shot an even-par round of 72 on Monday. In the Pee Wee Division, Brandon Eyre (Salem, Ore.) shot 38 (E) on the back-nine and holds a two stroke lead going into the final day.
The 2014 Portland City/Bob Allard Memorial is the last major tournament of the 2014 Oregon Junior Golf season. After the results on Tuesday, the Eddie Hogan Cup teams will be announced. Held at Riverside Golf & Country Club in Portland, Ore. from August 8-10, the Hogan Cup 36-hole team matches pit the best junior golfers from the Western United States and Canada against each other in a team format with the three lowest scores each day determining the team total.
