Kumpula Maintains Two-Shot Lead after Day Two of Oregon Stroke Play Championship

Conner Kumpula (Albany, Ore.) shot a second consecutive 4-under par 68 as he holds a two-shot lead going into Sunday’s final round at the 62nd Oregon Stroke Play Championship at Juniper Golf Club in Redmond, Ore.

In all three divisions (Open, Senior, Master-40), the top half of scores (including ties) made the cut and into the final day of play on Sunday. Play begins at 7:30 AM with the Senior Division.

In both his rounds, Kumpula has recorded five birdies and only one bogey. Back-to-back birdies on the fourth and fifth holes (his 13th & 14th) pushed his total to 8-under par after two days, a 136 combined score after two days.

In second place in the Open Division is Ray Richards (Tualatin, Ore.), who followed up his 2-under par 70 on Friday with a 4-under par round of 68 on Saturday. He sits at 6-under par, while Brent Grant (Honolulu, Hawaii) shot the low score of the tournament so far at 67 (-5) and is in third place at 4-under par (140) for the Championship. Defending champion Zach Foushee (West Linn, Ore.) is tied for fourth at 3-under par (141) with Adam Ruben, who shot 68 (-4) on Saturday. Ruben’s round included a spectacular beginning, which saw him jump out to a birdie-birdie-birdie-hole-in-one start in his first four holes.

Don Orrell (Bend, Ore.), another first-day leader, is ahead in the Senior Division going into the last day by two shots. Orrell followed up his 69 (-3) on Friday with an even-par round of 72 on Saturday. His 141 total is two shots better than Denny Taylor (Gladstone, Ore.), who fired a 3-under par 69 in the second round. In third place is Pat O’Donnell (Happy Valley, Ore.), who is at 144 and even par, while Chris Hudson (Portland, Ore.) is in fourth place at 145, four shots back of Orrell.

In the Master-40 Division, Scott Carver (Portland, Ore.) leads by one shot going into Sunday over first-round leader Cody Pinkston (Eugene, Ore.) and Scott Hval (Portland, Ore.). Carver is at 72-77 – 149, while Pinkston is at 71-79 – 150 and Hval stands at 73-77 – 150.
